By joining the caves under the castle with artificial connections, more and more caves were finally bundled together as a virtual labyrinth. At the eruption of WWII this was turned into a several kilometre long hospital, giving room for more than 10.000 beds - this was the so-called cave hospital. According to other sources, up to 4000 civilians found shelter within the cave system when the city was bombed. Exciting tours of the labyrinth can be found for everyone: on the side of different historical tours you can stroll through the labyrinth by yourself at daytime equipped with a map and a guidebook (or if you want: a guide). At night, however, the labyrinth can be visited, lighting your way with a petroleum lamp, or even in complete darkness. There is a special labyrinth for loving couples, who have to find each other in the dark. Special programs are being organised for children as well.
